The Voice Season 7 Episode 7 Recap: Let the Battles Begin!

The Voice Season 7 Episode 7 began the fall's epic Battle Rounds with contestants dueling it out for survival, with everything at stake in mano a mano music duels.
Let's break down Monday night's six battles, the victors, the vanquished and the stolen (the judges can grab defeated singers, two apiece, in this round) below ...
The Voice Coaches: Season 7
Sugar Joans vs. Jean Kelley (Team Gwen): They were mostly in tune, but these two girls struggled to harness the gravitas of Destiny's Child's girl power anthem.
Who was the "Survivor" of this battle? Sugar, who delivered a marginally stronger vocal performance. Jean, though was snapped up by Pharrell in a surprise move!
Chris Jamison vs. Jonathan Wyndham (Team Adam): Adam’s decision was an easy one here, as Jonthan wilted on his upper register. Chris moves on.
Taylor John Williams vs. Amanda Lee Peers (Team Gwen): Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” led to a bit of a surprise result as Amanda looked to be the stronger singer.
Not only did Gwen choose Taylor - whose voice is nice, don't get us wrong - no one pushed their button for Amanda, who put her heart and soul into this. SMH.
Elyjuh Rene vs. Maiya Sykes (Team Pharrell): Maiya made this one interesting, delivering soaring and emotional notes on Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You."
It looked like this matchup set up to be a guaranteed win for Elyjuh, given his growth potential, raw talent and the feel that he could be a dark horse contender.
Pharrell gave him the nod, but looked conflicted in doing so.
Craig Wayne Boyd vs. James David Carter (The Voice Battle Round)
Craig Wayne Boyd battles James David Carter on Pat Green's "Wave on Wave" for their coach, Blake Shelton.
James David Carter vs. Craig Wayne Boyd (Team Blake): Pat Green’s “Wave on Wave” made for another duel in which both members proved their worth.
Their contrasting styles but equally strong efforts made this a tough one for Blake, but also an easy one, as Gwen stole the loser right after he made his call.
James stays on Team Blake. Craig moves to Team Gwen.
Luke Wade vs. Griffin (Team Pharrell): Paul McCartney's “Maybe I’m Amazed" left Pharrell amazed by Luke, who could be a top tier contender this season.
Griffin was ten stolen by Blake, a good result all around.

What did you think of the first set of Season 7 Battle Rounds? Did  Maiya and Amanda get robbed, and do you agree with the three singers who earned steals?
