The Good Wife

The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 3 Recap: Going for a Run

We all know Alicia Florrick would run for State's Attorney, didn't we?
And, don't get us wrong, we're very excited to see this race heat up and to continue watching this new, aggressive, assertive main character.
But The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 3 used a couple unfortunate gimmicks to get us to this inevitable place.
First, we had Gloria Steinam as a guest star.
The Good Wife has employed big names in cameo spots before, but this one was used to actually influence Alicia's decision. Yes, it was funny to see Alicia have fantasies about taking over for the iconic feminists, but it all felt a bit forced.
We wanna see Alicia arrive at this decision on her own, for reasons that are consistent with her evolution. Not because writers shoe-horned a famous cameo on there.
Second, we need to talk about James Castro.
The Good Wife prides itself on giving viewers grey characters. No one is purely good or evil. Everyone has multiple sides and shades to them. It's an intelligent series that treats its audience as intelligent people.
But it's turned Castro into pure evil. He's mean, he's vindictive, he's a cartoon villain made easy for fans to despise and easy for Alicia to want to run again.
The vengeful case against Cary? The line about Will? Again, it all feels like a gimmick that isn't worthy of The Good Wife.
And, finally, do we even need this storyline overall? Alicia just started her own company. Cary is facing a long prison sentence. Diane and six other department heads are on board. There's A LOT going on at the moment.
The Good Wife partly excels because it's not afraid to change things up and because it places character is new, interesting situations. But this feels like an unnecessary ball to juggle.
Things are first coming in to place at Florrick/Agos. Do we need to toss the State's Attorney race into the mix?

What do you think, fans? Are you simply psyched to see how all this plays out and we're over-analyzing how we're getting there? Go watch The Good Wife online via TV Fanatic and sound off below on "Dear God."
