Arrow Season 3 Episode 4 Recap: Hunger for Revenge

Nyssa al Ghul returned on Arrow Season 3 Episode 4, hoping very much to make like Emily Thorne and avenge the death of a person she loved.
But would Oliver let her accomplish this dangerous mission?
Before we get to all that, let’s congratulate Arrow on reaching 50 episodes and let’s talk about those flashbacks to Hong Kong.
We saw Oliver working as an operating, killing a target and taking a flash drive from his body. Maseo tells him it’s best to not have a conscience, but Arrow is guilty and curious and he examines the flash drive.
The victim was Fyers’ handler. He played a role in the downing of the Ferris Air flight from Season 1. So, wait… Amanda has a connection to that event?
Yes. She says purpose of shooting down the plane was NOT to destabilize the Chinese economy, as Fyers thought, but to take out China White. She is now in Hong Kong and Amanda needs to know why.
Got it? Good. Now let’s discuss the returns of Nyssa al Ghul and Malcolm Merlyn!
Nyssa is all about killing whomever killed Sara, with Oliver telling Roy to follow her when he goes out to dinner with Thea.
Nyssa and Laurel clash over Sara’s death and who is responsible for it. Nyssa even tells Laurel that she's not worthy of wearing the jacket Sara used to don, the one Nyssa actually gave her. But she would take this back toward the end of the hour.
There was actually a lot of talking during the hour, which did result in Nyssa tracking down Merlyn and firing an arrow in her direction.
She misses, but Oliver hits him with a tracking arrow. This later bothers Laurel, who believes Merlyn deserves to die, regardless of the new, somewhat peaceful leaf Oliver has turned over.
When Oliver refuses to kill him, Laurel asks Nyssa to do it.
Merlyn calls Oliver and requests a public meeting. He says he played no part in Sarah’s death. With a bounty on his head, why would he kill Ra's' daughter's lover?
Oliver passes along to Thea that Merlyn is alive and she never lets on that she was training with him all summer.
Later on, after Nyssa tracks down Merlyn, Oliver once again swoops in and denies her revenge. By not killing this murderer - and then declaring that Merlyn is under his protection while he's in Starling City - Nyssa makes it very clear: Oliver has made an enemy out of the League.
At the conclusion of the episode, Nyssa pays her dad a visit and explains what went down in Starling City. When Nyssa tells Matt Nable’s Ra's al Ghul that Oliver has sworn to protect Merlyn, he states plainly:
"Then Oliver Queen courts war with us."
