Arrow Season 3 Episode 3 Recap: Homeward Bound
It was off to South America on Arrow Season 3 Episode 3, as Oliver, Roy and Diggle learned Thea was in Corto Maltese.
Their mission, and they very much chose to accept it, was to bring Thea home.
As this duo went to track down Thea - who is going by “Mia” these days - the show flashed back to that season-ending father/daughter limousine conversation.
We watched as Thea told Malcolm she never wants to "feel this pain again… to hurt or be hurt ever again."
So father invited daughter to select any destination and then he set out to toughen her up; initially, with some scalding wax, along with the mantra "pain is inevitable, suffering is optional."
Later on, however, Malcolm realized that he had to treat Thea as a student (as opposed to kin), which is when he started to really beat the crap out of her.
Once Thea made it clear she has some fight in her, he declared: “Now we can begin.”
In present day, Oliver and Roy found Thea and took turns trying to talk some sense into her. But she insisted she’ll never return to Startling City.
How did Oliver change his sibling’s mind? By opening up to her. He told her Robert Queen killed himself after reaching a lifeboat. And then he drove his emotional point home:
Mom and dad sacrificed for us to be alive. But we need to be together in honor to honor that sacrifice and truly live.
Thea is convinced. She “wins” a duel with Malcolm to earn his permission and heads home with Oliver and company. But not before an airport patron spills some coffee on her… and Thea doesn’t even flinch. She’s a very different young woman now.
ELSEWHERE:
- Laurel meets Ted Grant, whose protege was involved in a break-in. He owns a gym and he gives Laurel some boxing lessons and she later “suits up” to beat down the abusive boyfriend of a woman she met in AA.
- But the guy fights back and Laurel ends up in the hospital. Oliver scolds her and refuses to work with her, despite her desire to follow in Sara's footsteps. Looks like we'll be seeing more of Grant as her mentor.
- Felicity has an assistance at her new job and is tasked with salvaging some files discovered at the exploded applied sciences division. She heads off to Central City (crossover on The Flash Season 1 Episode 4!) and Roy gets an evil look on his face while perusing the schematics for assorted “advanced weapons.”
