Jennette McCurdy Web Series to Call Out Ariana Grande, Other Celebs?
Actress Jennette McCurdy, who co-starred on the successful but prematurely canceled Nickelodeon sitcomSam & Cat, is returning to the screen.
Your laptop or iPhone screen, that is.
In What's Next For Sarah, a web series she will be writing as well as starring in, Jennette will play the title character, one whose life mirrors her own.
While rumors suggested that Sam and Cat was canceled because of McCurdy's contract demands or photo scandals, the reason was likely Ariana.
Grande lost interest in the show as her music career exploded, and didn't want to re-up, leaving McCurdy without a project ... but with some bitterness.
The fact that Sam & Cat's demise happened around the same time as Jennette McCurdy lingerie photos leaked to the Internet is likely coincidental.
Hard as that is to believe, there's little evidence that it played a role.
In any case, What's Next For Jennette, er, Sarah, will put the lead character in a similar situation, as she's forced to figure out what to do with her life.
Sarah is an actress whose show has fizzled out, and the show will reportedly poke fun at some of the people she has met during her long acting career.
McCurdy admits as much, too, telling The Hollywood Reporter:
"I wanted What’s Next for Sarah to be a light-hearted call-out to some of the more absurd experiences I've faced growing up in the entertainment industry."
You can bet her alleged nemesis Ariana Grande will be called out, as well as Nickelodeon and iCarly, even if they're not mentioned by name.
That alone will make it worth checking out, along with the possibility - however remote - of Jennette/Sarah taking racy selfies for her Instagram ...
With Ariana's diva reputation now well established (or at least the topic of frequent rumors), it will be fun to see if McCurdy wades into that water at all.
