The Good Wife

The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 4 Recap: The Life of Alicia Florrick

Note to self: never run for State's Attorney.
On The Good Wife Season 6 Episode 4, viewers watched as Alicia sat with with Eli and possible new campaign manager, Johnny Elfman, in order to discuss the possibility of her running.
After learning about her positive poll results and hearing about the campaign in general, it came time for opposition research.
Opposition research on Alicia, that is.
And the first bombshell dropped exploded the loudest: Last August, after claiming he was going on a college visit of BC, Zach took his girlfriend to get an abortion.
Alicia was in shock over this news, calling Peter to confirm that he also didn't know about it and leaving multiple messages on Zach's voicemail.
It was the perfect example of politics crashing into one's personal life, as a crisis of the latter nature could affect her campaign. There's also the question of just how angry Alicia is at Zach versus how angry she likely is at herself for not having any idea this happened. Has she been too focused on work over family?
Other personal issues brought to the forefront involved Alicia's mother spanking an annoying five-year old in the mall; and Owen sleeping with a married man who also works as a porn star.
Alicia awkwardly confronted both relatives about these scandals, at first talking her mother into apologizing to the boy's family. But then seeing how the boy's mother sucked, so then blackmailing her with video of the boy acting up at the mall and how another patron there might sue that family.
The conversation with Owen barely went anywhere, however, as he walked out the minute his sister brought up such embarrassing personal information.
Alicia eventually got Zach on the phone and yelled at him. She told him she was running (yes, folks, she is running) for State's Attorney and that he had to tell reporters that she knew about the abortion; that she presented all the options; and that she encouraged him to have the baby.
Our heroine very quickly learned this week how politics are VERY personal.
She even got pulled over on a suspected DUI at one point, as stop almost definitely arranged by Castro. She passed the breathalyzer, but folks took photos of her getting tested and they went viral.
Finally, after being told to dump Lemond Bishop as a client, Alicia learned that Bishop set up a PAC for her. It raised $140,000 in 24 hours and the drug lord told her that there's plenty more where that came from.
Why is he doing this? Bishop knows how much it will benefit him to have the State's Attorney in his pocket.
What, Alicia, did you think running would easy?
What a terrific hour of television. Tense. Surprising. Fast-moving. Just very well done all around.
