Who knew it could be so much fun to be summoned?!?
That was one lesson we learned on Scandal Season 4 Episode 2, which involved Jake getting a hotel room near Olivia's place so she could pay him some "booty calls" every once and awhile. She can't always be "summoning" him, after all.
The two argued a bit over this request, while Jake looked over Harrison's files and found something that implicates Charlie in his death, only for Olivia to show up later in nothing but a trench coat. OOOHHH YEEAAAH!
Elsewhere, Cyrus asked Olivia find out why a high-profile couple that represents the face of gun control in order to feature them during Fitz’s the State of the Union address.
Turns out, the New Mexico couple is far from perfect, but Olivia handles the situation by promising to "spin" their respective careers after they get a divorce. They agree and put in their speech appearance.
Meanwhile, RNC boss Lizzie are displeased with Fitz’s nomination of Democrat David Rose for Attorney General.
The confirmation hearing is ugly, but Rosen puts up a strong fight, at one point comparing his time as a school teacher to Michael Jordan’s time as a baseball player. But Lizzie brings up Rosen’s fabricated domestic abuse charge, prompting an impressive retort from the nominee:
A B613 file to hold over Watson’s head, earning him the angry senator’s endorsement. (Blackmail? Nope. “I like to think of it as winning," he replies.)
By the end of the hour, though, viewers see Lizzie's next plan is to send a “sex worker” to seduce “lonely” Cyrus.
We end on Mellie. She’s thrown for a loop by the tabloids seeing her snack in her Uggs and robe at Jerry’s grave, with Fitz and Cyrus unable to get through to her.
Ultimately, Abby takes away the snacks from the First Lady and tells her how it needs to be, stating how there are plenty of people out there who also have lost kids, but they don’t get months and months away from their jobs to mourn. Moreover, as First Lady, the people who voted for Fitz need to see they made the right decision.
So chin up, Mellie. It's game time!
As the State of the Union rolls around, Fitz gets together with Olivia and pleads her to offer counsel. The result is an ab-libbed part of the speech in which Fitz acknowledges what his family has been through, gives praise to his “amazingly strong” wife Mellie (who, yes, is in her seat) and then delves into an argument for gun control.
And, although Mellie seemed to be okay earlier, she later she breaks down in the residence, hysterically sobbing as Fitz runs to her side for consolation.
