Aaron Carter is backing off his hopelessly romantic quest to win Hilary Duff back, and trying to downplay that he ever was doing that, it would appear.
Hilary Duff shot Carter down in brutal fashion earlier this month after he openly pined for her online, was asked about his bizarre, public love crusade.
"If I'm too open about how I feel then people wanna nag and pick and poke at me. I don't know Hilary either. She don't know me and I don't know her."
"She's got a kid, she's married and I'm not trying to be that dude. That's not my intention. Hilary will always hold a very special place in my heart."
"I just need to shut up now about it. I think it's time."
Given how Hilary dismissed his feelings, one would have expected him (even forgiven him) for taking some cheap shots here, but he took the opposite route.
While the status of Hilar Duff and Mike Comrie was at least in doubt (and possibly still is) after their split earlier this year, Carter says he's not going there.
He was just trying to be open about his feelings, he says, never meaning any harm - only harming himself, it seems, by doing so in a public forum.
But no longer, as he vowed to zip it from now on.
High road taken, and romance dreams ended.
