The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4: The Hospital from Hell

So... what happened to Beth?
Among other key pieces if information this question was answered on The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 4.
We opened with Beth waking up at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital, stitches on her cheek, hand in a cast. From there, police officer Dawn Lerner and Dr. Steven Edwards entered her room, telling Beth that she had been rescued from a walker “rotter” attack.
As a result the cop eerily told her, "you owe us." Where is Daryl? You were picked up by yourself, they answered.
We later see Beth working off her supposed debt as an orderly/nurse. But it wasn’t typical work:
She helped Steven throw a ill-fated patient down an elevator shaft (where walkers were waiting to dispose of the remains) and she assistance with a procedure to stabilize a new patient named Trevitt.
Overall, Steven came across as nice enough, sharing lunch with Beth and expressing a desire for a better world. But Dawn worked with some shady officers, especially once who made sexual innuendoes over just what Beth owed him.
Beth also discovered a lollipop in her pocket as a gift from another orderly named Noah, while another prisoner/aide (Joan) was then dragged in due to a zombie bite and forcibly given a life-saving arm-ectomy.
Why did Joan try to escape when she could just work off her debt and leave? Noah told her that he'd been there a year and never seen that actually happen.
Prior to her day ending, Beth heeded Steven’s order and gave Trevitt an injection. It killed him. But to spare Beth from Dawn’s wrath, Noah took the place and got a beatdown for his kind efforts.
“Every sacrifice we make has to be for the greater good,” Dawn explained to Beth, saying she doesn’t care what her officers do as long as they’re happy. That way, they can help rebuild the world at some point.
So Beth and Noah planned an escape, one that included Beth knocking Gorman out and feeding him to Joan, who had killed herself and was now a walker.
Noah made it to freedom, but Beth was caught by the guards.
Once inside, she went off on everyone and was actually about to kill Steven with a pair of scissors when another patient walked in... CAROL!
